Just sent my 2015 calendar off to the printers, and here is a little preview for you. I’ve used the same format (A5) as last year, which easily fits into any space and hopefully brightens up your everyday :) You’ll find a mix of my collages and drawings, some colour, some black and white, plenty of animals and a few ladies (magic ones). The calendar will pop up in my shop shortly!
There’s something about dressing up animals. They start acting strange, I’ll tell you. I was just drawing this hare, starting with his fluffy ears and getting those eyes right. He looked at me as if I was supposed to leave him in the cold like that, now that winter is approaching and all. So I had better make him a jumper. Then there was his mouth, he wouldn’t keep it still and I had to give him a pipe. Look at all that smoke he’s been puffing out. There was nothing I could do about it.
Found some photos from an old sketchbook that I really liked! These have quite a raw feeling about them, I was working a lot with deep earthy colours and sketchy lines back then. I often rediscover old work and use them in new illustrations, or are reminded of unused ideas and ways of experimenting with materials/techniques. Have you noticed the one object that stays with me through all times? Yes, I’m haunted by the H O R S E... I hope it didn’t scare you.
Sketchbooking is my favourite thing to do, this is where I play! It is like daydreaming. I like to start with a found image, cut and paste or draw from it, then I let my imagination loose and see what happens. I need music while I do this. I cannot remember what I listened to while making this, I think it was something French... (:
There are changes in my life at the moment. Change of scenery, both new and familiar at the same time. I’ve mad a big move, bought a house, in the forest, just what I’ve been dreaming of. It feels surreal. And I’ve got a dog - I S L A - my very own deerhound! Another dream come true. New studio too, a refreshing new start. Lucky, I am.
(ps: to weigh up for the silence on the blog so far this year, I’ve just published three blog posts in a row. They were ready all the time, but for some reason I never managed to post them... Hopefully you’ll like it still. Will be back soon to show you some new work too.)
How about an illustrated calendar for the new year? Hopefully this one will inspire some of you throughout 2014. It’s filled with collages inspired by the natural and animal world, and also the colours of the different seasons.
For international orders, I will make an E T S Y account soon, so it can be purchased there too. If you want it right now, please leave a comment or email me with your contact details, and we can sort something out.
May 2014 be filled with all the fun, laughter, dreams and adventures you wish for. And that the rest of it won’t be too bad either ;)
